Unintended Shelter is a modular 3D-printed sculpture inspired by what remains after a tree is felled. Vines weave around roots, moss colonizes the trunk — and even when the tree is reduced to a stump, the vines stay, wrapping it like a final protective layer.
Yet this "protection" carries no intent. The vine is simply seeking a place to grow; the stump, in turn, retains a semblance of shelter and continuity. Who benefits more is impossible to say — a relationship that blurs the line between mutual support and quiet self-interest.
The sculpture is printed in three separate components — the roots, the vines, and the blossoms with stalked eyes — joined through interlocking nodes. Because each part can be repositioned and reattached, the sculpture never holds a single fixed form: like the vine itself, it adapts, regrows, and reshapes according to where it finds a place to hold on.
