PROJECT BRIEF

SY:NC is a self-initiated pop-up project — a birthday cafe for an idol, built as a temporary fashion retail space that doubles as an exhibition. Over two days, the space hosted photo displays, merchandise, and a photobooth, all running on a single identity system I designed from the ground up.

Concept

An in-ear monitor is the one thing a performer can't go on stage without. Thousands of people are listening to him; he's listening to something none of them can hear.

The identity takes that object literally. The mark is a distorted ear impression — the mold that makes an in-ear fit only one person — rendered as something between anatomy and sound wave. The naming system runs on the same logic, borrowing the vocabulary of audio signal: SY:NC for the moment performer and music align, No Pause in Memory for the thing that doesn't stop, and Latency: 9.09 — a signal delay measured in a birthday.

Identity System

THE MARK

The mark folds three things into one form. SYA — the artist's name — is drawn as a single continuous shape, the letters sharing strokes so neither can be read without the other. That same interlock reads as sync: two signals aligned into one. And the curves themselves trace the whorls of an ear canal, the anatomy an in-ear monitor is molded to fit.

Contained in a rounded square, the mark works as an app icon, a stamp, an embroidery, or a sticker without losing legibility.
